Alux Story
Finally, a general sense of responsibility and accountability from people all over the world is leading people to better take care of our planet. Anybody can do their part and we are a couple looking to do their small part and make a mark on this effort.
Oplex has 60 years of vinyl production under its belt spanning 4 family generations. They revitalized the oilcloth market worldwide by modernizing vinyl coating to the home textile industry and therefore reducing the need for people to replace their table linens and kitchen covers as often.
They were not aware of the impact this would have in reducing textile waste; but once they found out their efforts accelerated. Today, the group produces safe consumer materials free of cadmium, chrome, BPAs and utilizes only phthalate free plasticizers. Furthermore, they consciously developed a recycling program that currently re-utilizes upwards of 90% of the plastic waste produced in their plants into other materials and forms.
Of the remaining materials, the obstacle in re-processing was the fact that the plastics had by then been bound to textiles; thus making them un-recyclable.
This is precisely where the idea for First Choice Vinyls came from. We have taken a hint from the many available oilcloth products available and decided to aim our assembly process towards only using products that would otherwise be sold as scrap and likely end up in dump sites. Why does un-recyclable have to mean unusable?
